The woman I choose is Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. I chose this women because she shared revalations that inspired Martin Luther King and Ghandi. I also chose her because she was big in democracy. One of the main reasons why I chose her is becaues of her ability to change the minds of her oppressors, and even make them become more leniant to her side. I belived that many things were surprising about her. Even through that I think what surprised me the most was the fact that she inspired Martin Luther, and Ghandi. This surprises me because I always used to think that Martin Luther, and Ghandi learned their ideas on their own. Not only did this surprise me but it is what I most interesting. I think that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has a very interesting story. I also think that she has truly changed the world. She has also proven that not only can she democracy, but she can also change the thoughts of individuals. In truth I do think that she is a good Power of One candidate.

Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy on May 12, 1820. Florence was the daughter of a wealthy landowner. As a child, Florence was very close to her father, who treated her as his friend, more than his daughter. As she grew older, she began to develop an interest in nursing, but her parents thought of it as an innapropriate job for a woman of her class and background, and would not allow her to train as a nurse. They wanted her to make a good marriage and live the life of  an upper class woman. Nightingale's parents gave in and in 1851, she attended Kaiserwerth in Germany for three months nursing training. This made it possible for her to become superintendent of a hospital for gentlewomen. Nightingale was asked to go to a war site. With her help the medical conditions there greatly improved. She returned to England in 1856, and in 1860 she established the Nightingale Training School for nurses.

I chose Florence Nightingale because though she at first didn't have the support of her parents she didn't give up. Through that action she shows determination for something she has a passion for. I also chose her because she had the bravery to leave her home, her friends and family, and her overall comfort zone to go into a war zone, and completely regenerate their medical conditions. Even after all that she still managed to come home and establish a school for nurses.

Florence lived from 1820 to 1910, so this paragraph will show events and details about this time. During this time The Crimean War was fought from 1853 to 1856 between Imperial Russia and an alliance of France, the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of Sardinia, and the Ottoman Empire. With the help Nightingale and her trained staff of 38 volunteer nurses to wounded soldiers in this war made her famous in Britain. During this time Nightingale also set up her school.

In Nightingale's time the world was much different. The government was different because not all amendments tha apply today were in effect back then. Economics were also different because back then the cost of something may be alot less or a lot more than it is today. The culture back then was still male oriented, women could'nt vote, or own land or businesses. Theis technology was still in a sense primitive, because they still used only one large clock to tell time for everyone.
