The Rise and Fall of "Il Duce" Benito Mussolini
Mussolini was born in Predappio in 1888, he lived with a very poor family in a 2 room apartment. His dad was a blacksmith and also a socialist, his mother was a teacher. Mussolini was a bright kid but tended to fight and be stuborn, and got kicked out of school for stabbing another kid. So he was transfered to another school and started getting better grades. He got his diploma in 1902, he soon joined the first world war, he got many war medals for his undying loyalty and passion to Italy. He was transfered back to Italy due to an injury to his leg by a fragmentation granade. When he returned the war was already over, he was disgusted by how Italy had collapsed during the war. He then resigned the socialist party and founded his own party of workers or commonly known as fascism which he supported by also creating a newspaper called Popolo d'Italia (Which is present till this day). His party was based on patrioism, nazionalism but keeping capitalism intact. During the years he gained more and more seats in the parlament until he did the famous "March to Rome" which was only a myth all he did was a revolt and asked king emmanuel to make him ruler of Italy. In no more than 2-4 Years he managed to clean up many swamps, reinstate old monuments and transform Italy into a violence guided society. One of the Mottos they used said "Credere,Obbedire,Combattere" or "Boia chi molla" which translated is "Belive,Obey,Fight" and "Loser who quits"(native translation). In 1932 Italy invaded Etiopia to regain "Italian land", Il Duce belived he could restore europe into the old roman sea. Italy won the war due to superior numbers and equipment, during the time hitler rose to power as well in the new nazi germany and decided to bring Mussolini into his quest for power. During the war there were many casualties on the Axis side (the alliance treaty between Italy,Germany and Japan). Mussolini's life ended at the end of WW2 after he was shot by partisans and hanged in the gas station in piazzetta loretto Milano.

Mussolini's Death
The reason I choose Mussolini is because he was the primary subject of my projects in middle school and had to study a full biografy on him to get a good grade. Also he was the one that restored all the lands in Italy and its monuments, he also created pension which is used today in many other countries.

Mussolini and Hitler
Mussolini was in the time period when the stock market crashed and the great depression was felt all around the world, it was also the end of WW I which really damaged all of the european states, particularly Italy, Germany and France. He first sought to be a teacher but after he joined the war and returned to Italy he decided to work more into politics because Italy needed a man with a strong will to be governed.
Video of the declaration of war by Mussolini click here.
Translation of the declaration
"Fighters of land, Sea and of the Air!
Black shirts of the revolution and of the legions,
men and women of Italy, of the empire and the reign
of Albania.
LISTEN!
The hour signed by destiny beats in the sky of our country
*crowd screaming*
War! war!
The declaration of war has already been given to the ambassadors of...
*crowd interupts Mussolini*
War! War!
To the ambassadors of Great Britan and France.
We go into the battlefield against the weak and corrupt democracies
of the Occidente which has always been an obstacle to our march
and many times have troubled the existence of the Italian People.
Some people of the most recent history can be resumed in those words
Frases, Promises, Threats, extorsions, and in the end the crowning of the building
the ignorant socialist assault of 52 states.
Our conscience is absolutely tranquil. With you the whole world is witness that the Italy of the lictor has done what was humanly possible to avoid the hurricane which is overwhelming Europe, but all was in vain.
It would have been enough to revise the treaties to adapt them to the vital demands of the life of nations, and not to regard them as infrangible throughout eternity.
It would have been enough not to have persisted in the policy of guarantees which have shown themselves to have been above all fatal for those who accepted them. It would have been enough not to have rejected the proposal which the Fuhrer made last October when the Polish campaign came to an end.
But all that belongs to the past. We are to-day decided to face all the risks and sacrifices of war. A nation is not really great if it does not regard its undertakings as sacred, and if it recoils them those supreme trials which decide the course of history.
We are taking up arms after having solved the problem of our land frontiers." he went on. We want to break off the territorial and military chains which are strangling us in our sea for a people of 45.000.000 inhabitants is not truly free if it has no free passage over the ocean.
The gigantic struggle is only a phase of the logical development of our revolution. It is the struggle of peoples poor, but rich in workers against the exploiters who fiercely hold on to all the wealth and all the gold of the earth. It is the struggle of the fruitful and young peoples against the sterile peoples on the threshold of their decline. It is the struggle between two centuries and two ideas.
Now that the die is east and we have our own will burned the bridges behind us. I solemnly declare that Italy does not intend to drag into the conflict other peoples who are her neighbours by sea and land. Let Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Egypt, and Greece take note of these words of mine, for it will depend entirely on them whether they are fully confirmed or not.
At a memorable meeting that in Berlin - I said that according to the law of Fascist morality when one has a friend one stands by him to the end.
We have done that and we shall do it with Germany, with her people, and her victorious armed forces. On the eve of this event of historic importance we address our thoughts to his Majesty the King emperor and we salute equally the head of a allied Greater Germany.
The proletarian Italy is fascist and for the third time standing up, strong and proud and compact like never before.
The word of honor is only one, Categoric and challenging for everyone.
Its word already flies and fires the hearts of the Alps in the Indian Ocean
VICTORY!!!! And we will WIN to finaly give a long period of peace to Italy, Europe , TO the WORLD.
People of Italy, Run to arms and show your tenacy, Your bravery and your VALOR. "
Mussolini made a big difference in the world expetially in terms of WWII since the way he ran his government, inspired other countries like Germany to act the same way. Mussolini had a dictatorship which allowed him full power over the people, in a way he could manipulate them, hence he could also manipulate his economy. Many countries used his “Pension” Method to satisfy citizens. It involved to keep paying the hard working citizens even when they could no longer work of old age.

Power Of One Project
Sorry Mrs. Larocca :(
Joan of Arc
The person who claim to fame was named Joan of Arc, what fascinated me about her is that in less than 6 years she had already made a drastic change in all of france. When she was 14 she said she spoken to Michael the Archangel who told her that she was supposed to save France. Joan who at the time was named “du pussel” was now renamed Joan of Arc. She had the support of Deuphi in her battles and quests. Until she was captured by the English and was burned at the stake for heresy. She shouted Jesus’s name 6 times before dying and also told her close friend to go to a nearby church to grab a cross and raise it up so she could see it. It surprised me to know that the church really used religion as an exuse to obtain political means. I conclude by saying that Joan of Arc had potentiality of being a power of one subject because of the vast ways she shaped her country after her death.
Nelson Mandela
The person that claimed to fame and by today is still alive is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela fought for the South African black rights in the 60's. His family was disapointed it him since he chased the political career and struggled to get thru education. But when he finaly got out of university he foundedthe ANC youth program but had to abbandon it due to his will to go underground to increase his political power. After sometime the nation banned the ANC and killed 61 people which led Mandela to resort to violence and found a group called MK. But he was sentenced to a life time in jail, during that time it was a difficult moment for him. The nation won black rights around the 90's and Mandela was released from prison, this event was watched from all over the world. I find Nelson Mandela interesting because of his belief in his ideas, many times was he offered to say otherwise of what he belived to be taken out of jail early but he never gave up. I think he would be a great option for the power of one project since he is one of the few someone can relate to Dr.Martin Luther King.
Benito Mussolini
Mussolini... Mussolini was the son of a blacksmith back at 1890. His full name was Benito Mussolini. Historians say that he was a very bright student but stuborn and always picking fights with the other kids because they woulden't obey him. After a while he decided to graduate and do his best to get thru school, when he graduated he was enlisted to the World War 1 front. He bravely fought each and every battle until they had to send him home due to an injury to the leg caused by a fragmentation granade. When he returned home he was disapointed to see that all Italy was in ruin and famine. The reparations were ridiculous, the lands were taken back and economy was broken. He decided to found the "Extreme Nationalist Party" better known has "Fascism" to boost his power he needed funds. His wife gave up all her belongings so he could start a newspaper called "Popolo d'Italia". Some time after he went on the legendary "March to Rome" which ofcourse is only a myth he simply caused too much trouble and had political power so the king of Italy gave him the 2nd most powerful position in Italy. He then proceded at changing politics, economy and military powers. An example would be that all kids at school would be enrolled into a Youth Group where they would do parades and learn basic war techniques, Mussolini also made alot of propaganda like Stalin and Hitler (even tho Hitler copied all of Mussolini's ideas). His goal was to make Italy a militaristic country based on war, and to test that he invaded Eutopia and succeded. Truth about Mussolini tho, he did many great things for Italy like clearing all the swamps and reconstruction of fallen monuments and raising employement. The military no matter how hard he tried was not sufficient because he lacked equipment. Hitler when he went to power asked Mussolini to join him in WW2, Mussolini knew he would have had to accept his rules on racism to have support of his troops in Italy, most of all he wanted part of the spoils even tho he wasen't ready. Mussolini and Hitler agreed to wait until Italy had prepared their troops. Hitler went on suprise attacks thruout Europe anyhow. Mussolini decided to send troops so he could have enoght dead poeple to "Sit at the peace table" hence be recognised as a dangerous man. He was much later on killed by partisans near the end of world war 2. I find him interesting because in less than 10-20 years he managed to purify the italian lands from swamps and restore roman monuments. Mussolini's biggest mistake in his life was WW2... I think Mussolini is a great subject for the power of one project.
